7 don'ts after a meal

* Don't smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meals is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher).

* Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore take fruits 1-2 hours after meal or 1 hour before meal.

* Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest.

* Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestine to be twisted & blocked.

* Don't bathe - Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

* Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and you will live till 99. In reality this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system unable to absorb the nutrition from the food we intake.

* Don't sleep immediately - The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine.

Hope you guys find this health info useful =)

10 Tips to Prevent Cold and Flu the "Natural" Way

It seems that quite alot of people are getting sick recently, the information below may help you to prevent cold and flu, so hope everyone stays in good shape and healthy =)

Since there are no known cures for colds and flu, prevention must be your goal. A proactive approach to warding off colds and flu is apt to make your whole life healthier. The most effective way to prevent flu, frankly, is to get the flu shot. It may not be natural, but it works better than anything else. But there are other strategies you can employ as well:

#1 Wash Your Hands

Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact. Someone who has the flu sneezes onto their hand, and then touches the telephone, the keyboard, a kitchen glass. The germs can live for hours -- in some cases weeks -- only to be picked up by the next person who touches the same object. So wash your hands often. If no sink is available, rub your hands together very hard for a minute or so. That also helps break up most of the cold germs.

#2 Don't Cover Your Sneezes and Coughs With Your Hands

Because germs and viruses cling to your bare hands, muffling coughs and sneezes with your hands results in passing along your germs to others. When you feel a sneeze or cough coming, use a tissue, then throw it away immediately. If you don't have a tissue, turn your head away from people near you and cough into the air.

#3 Don't Touch Your Face

Cold and flu viruses enter your body through the eyes, nose, or mouth. Touching their faces is the major way children catch colds, and a key way they pass colds on to their parents.

#4 Drink Plenty of Fluids

Water flushes your system, washing out the poisons as it rehydrates you. A typical, healthy adult needs eight 8-ounce glasses of fluids each day. How can you tell if you're getting enough liquid? If the color of your urine runs close to clear, you're getting enough. If it's deep yellow, you need more fluids.

#5 Take a Sauna

Researchers aren't clear about the exact role saunas play in prevention, but one 1989 German study found that people who steamed twice a week got half as many colds as those who didn't. One theory: When you take a sauna you inhale air hotter than 80 degrees, a temperature too hot for cold and flu viruses to survive.

#6 Get Fresh Air

A regular dose of fresh air is important, especially in cold weather when central heating dries you out and makes your body more vulnerable to cold and flu viruses. Also, during cold weather more people stay indoors, which means more germs are circulating in crowded, dry rooms.

#7 Do Aerobic Exercise Regularly

Aerobic exercise speeds up the heart to pump larger quantities of blood; makes you breathe faster to help transfer oxygen from your lungs to your blood; and makes you sweat once your body heats up. These exercises help increase the body's natural virus-killing cells.

#8 Eat Foods Containing Phytochemicals

"Phyto" means plants, and the natural chemicals in plants give the vitamins in food a supercharged boost. So put away the vitamin pill, and eat dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits.

#9 Eat Yogurt

Some studies have shown that eating a daily cup of low-fat yogurt can reduce your susceptibility to colds by 25 percent. Researchers think the beneficial bacteria in yogurt may stimulate production of immune system substances that fight disease.

#10 Relax

If you can teach yourself to relax, you can activate your immune system on demand. There's evidence that when you put your relaxation skills into action, your interleukins -- leaders in the immune system response against cold and flu viruses -- increase in the bloodstream. Train yourself to picture an image you find pleasant or calming. Do this 30 minutes a day for several months. Keep in mind, relaxation is a learnable skill, but it is not doing nothing. People who try to relax, but are in fact bored, show no changes in blood chemicals.

Cooking (Jan 26)

Hi everyone,

Last week, we went to the MUD Praise and Worship, and had a wonderful time worshipping God with other fellowships. This Friday, we are going to make some traditional Chinese snacks: Shanghai style dumplings and "tong yuen". Louisa and Ruth will lead us preparing these yummy snacks. We expect to have equal split of people in each group, around six to seven, so please let us know which group you would like to join before Friday. We will enjoy the food together afterwards. You may bring a container for leftover =)

Next week: Ministry meeting-it's time for us to continue with our project (s)

Upcoming event: Tea House-Can you feel the love tonight? (Feb 16)

Please pray 4 me!

As some of you may know, I'm graduating this May (yeah, finally!). I'm so excited about it, but also a bit worried and frustrated, because I still not sure what I want to do and where I want to go (stay in Van or back to HK) after graduation. I'm afraid that I would be a "double loss" (雙失), literally means, you have neither school nor job. I feel like in the middle of nowhere...if I want to work in the field of psychology, I need to obtain at least a master's degree. But the thing is, I don't even know whether I'm really interested in psychology. What should I do?

Another thing is, I always want to breakthrough and change myself to be the ideal self that I want to be. However, I find that this is easier said than done, and it's not easy at all to take the first step. You know, I'm the kind of person who only do things that I'm 100% certain, thus, I dare not to take risks and challenges. On one hand, I really want to change, but on the other hand, I dare not to take risks...sounds a bit contradictory here. What could I do?

This year, I may face a number of changes:
-Graduate
-Move out
-Get a car
-Get a job/start a new program

Please remember me in your prayers!

Thanks,
Ruth

Thoughts on the MUD Praise and Worship

It was a great Praise and Worship afterall. I could see the MUD's passion in music and the way they serve God. The worship leader sang devotedly and whole-heartedly, his sharings are so genuine; I also like the harmonized parts, sang really well; instrumentalists are good too. Although the music was a bit too loud for me, it was a great and touching praise and worship experience.

We didn't expect so many people came to this praise and worship, and it's absolutely "people mountain people sea". There is no "stage" in that hall, so some of us could not see what was happening in the front, and could not fully devote to the worship experience. It's better if they could provide a booklet, so that we could at least read the lyrics, if not be able to see what they were doing in the front.

What do you guys think about the Praise and Worship?

Camps

As mentioned earlier tonight, this year we will be joining Paul’s fellowship camp along with Emanuel’s fellowship. Ideally, we will have several Joshua fellows join the camp committee to help out with the planning especially if we would like to have some time set aside for our fellowship (ex. Sharing) during camp. If you would like to be a part of that committee, please let me know within the next couple of weeks.

As well, we would also like to have a Gospel camp this year. If there are enough people who are interested and would be willing to join a Gospel camp committee to plan a Gospel camp, then the fellowship committee will request to have a budget for a Gospel camp. If you are interested and would be willing to help, please let me know, the sooner the better.

Thanks,
Derek

Hi everyone,

How's everyone doing this week? Last Friday, we had our first ministry team meeting, and talked about our plans and goals for this year.
